Yet Another Blog Intro

I like to write. For pretty much all of my schooling years, penning my thoughts in various ways has been the most consistent source of joy. I've spent hours upon hours trying to craft essays and reports I was proud of, and through writing (and reading), I've exposed myself to the various areas of knowledge we humans have accumulated over the years. I've dabbled in a diverse array of mediums. I had been writing poetry pretty consistently, and I occasionally write semi-serious reviews. Even in college, the writing-heavy courses were generally quite a blast.

I started working in July 2022 in a job that involves a lot of writing of a different kind, and admittedly, working with the best of the what the world has to offer in terms of technology has greatly expanded my appreciation for the craft. Coding is a lot more like writing poetry than one might expect; every line represents a whole collection of conscious decisions that fit together perfectly to perform a task. Writing (good) code is an artform just like any other, but I'll be lying if I said it provides the same hit as knocking out a good exposition on something that deeply interests me. Writing in English has its own kind of appeal, and this is something I realized I was lacking from my life. Ideas have been bubbling away in my mind for a while, but I realized that if I want to start writing a blog, it's better to just start it now.

And here we are. Deep in the night during submission season, and yet scraping out the time to set up a Ghost CMS. In the process of setting it up, I started asking myself a very important question: what was I actually going to talk about? It's not like I'm an expert on anything in particular, and in every learning journey I find myself on, I stand on the shoulders of many, many giants. Then again, it doesn't really matter. Everyone out there knows something you don't, and maybe I have things to share that will elucidate some small detail for someone who stumbles across this page. And well, that's something worth aiming for.

Speaking of things to aim for, this blog will showcase things I've picked up along the way and the thoughts I've had, as well as deep dives into seemingly meaningless things I have been thinking of. I do plan on covering technical topics, since that's a part of my life now, but I also want to talk about more general things since I am more than just a software engineer. I'm interested in history, philosophy, and economics in equal measure, and that's something worth exploring more.

What does my blog not aim for? I don't aim to target some particular "niche". This is a personal blog, and not something I'll ever see as a source of passive income. I want a blog because I want to write, and a multi-topic blog makes the most sense to me for that purpose. Additionally, this blog won't have anything resembling reviews of the media I consume. While it's always amusing to poke fun at different baffling decisions in media, I think that distracts from the mentality I want to bring to my writing. I'd rather be more optimistic and introspective than just critical.

That seems like a good place to end my first post. Since I'm paying money to keep this up, I figured that that would be enough motivation for me to continue sharing my thoughts through this authoritative site of what makes me me. Here's to hoping I'm right about that.

🎉 Cheers.
